Obesity raises diabetes risk regardless of genetic profile

A study in PLOS Medicine revealed obese participants with the lowest genetic risk for diabetes had higher odds of disease onset than their normal-weight counterparts with the highest genetic risk. Researchers said the findings suggest that obesity elevates the risk of diabetes regardless of genetic profile, and that disease prevention programs that focus on weight loss may trump genetics-based approaches. (5/20)
